Website Design Software

What’s black and white and red all over?  A sunburned penguin.  Now, what’s black and white and 214 other web safe colors?  Perhaps your next web page.  Even though the advance of technology has made using browser safe colors on web sites less important, you’d be surprised at the number of people still browsing the Internet on outdated equipment.  Also, handheld devices such as PDAs and cell phones still have limited display capabilities.  Therefore, it’s important for your web page to conform to certain color standards in order to function properly across various platforms.  You want everyone to see the same thing on their monitor or screen.

Specialty Web Color Software

Web Palette Pro was designed and manufactured in “the land down under” by Multimedia Australia Inc.  They have been serving the needs of a global multimedia market for the past 6 years.  Their product allows a designer to choose from web safe colors and custom colors.  It’s made to integrate seamlessly with the web site design software of your choice.  You can export hex values for colors to the Windows clipboard.  It’s good for when your HTML editor isn’t WYSIWYG or comes with an inferior web safe color feature.  It comes with free updates.

The price is $24.95 from their official website (www.mmaus.com/products/webpalettepro.php).  You can either buy a fully functional version or download a demo copy.

Functions Within Robust Web Design Software

Nowadays, most people who own web design software will already have this feature built in.  Microsoft Front Page, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Corel Paint Shop Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe GoLive are just a few of the many site designing applications available with built-in capabilities for choosing browser safe colors.  These programs will generally give you the option of choosing from millions of colors as well.

Is This Trip Really Necessary?

The big question is this—is all this fuss over web safe colors even necessary?  There’s some debate about this.  The fact is that all standard monitors allow you to view millions and millions of colors.  These monitors have been available for years.  There are some who haven’t modernized their system yet, but is it enough so that people still need to concern themselves over browser safe colors?

I guess it just depends.  If you’re creating a web site for upgrading your monitor, it would be more important to use web safe colors than if you were designing a mostly text-heavy site.  Every web designer will have his or her own opinions on this.  I personally still use web safe colors.  In any event, if you should choose to make your web site with browser safe colors, there are more than enough tools available to help you along with this task.
